chicken of the sea
The island of Kauai is covered with chickens. Chickens everywhere. I had read in one travel guide that the chickens were blown out of their pens in hurricanes and then became wild all over the island. I found one website that claims that they are not chickens, per se, but are wild birds called "Red Junglefowl". I say if it walks like a chicken and squawks like a chicken...for all intents and purposes you could call it a chicken. At 4 am each morning, we could hear roosters going off, either nearby or in the distance somewhere. They ran in packs of roosters, hens, babies, and teenaged chickens. They were a mixture of reds, browns, blacks, tans, whites, speckled, fan-tailed, long-tailed, you name it. Having raised a tiny flock of chickens, which is now down to our one precious pet Penny, we loved having chickens all around everywhere we went. It struck my funny bone to see chickens kicking back on the beach.
