in defense of honeymoons

The partner, now the husband, and I have been together for many, many years. With all the hubbub of preparing for and then having a wedding in our backyard, we decided that we'd forgo the standard honeymoon until some later date. I'm here to say that this was a bad idea. For one, we were tired. Bone tired. We needed a few days of rest much more than we realized we would. Back to work on Monday was absolutely painful. In fact, the whole week last week was painful, and I still don't feel like I'm up to par. And the second reason--it's a real bummer when the "magic" ends, bam!, just like that. Family leaves, friends leave, flowers wilt, tent comes down, life resumes, and it's almost like it never happened. We wished that we'd gone somewhere, done something, that helped the wonderful feel of the whole wedding thing keep flowing for a few more days. Sigh. We should've taken a honeymoon. Yes, a honeymoon would have been nice! So sorry I missed the nuptuals (sp).
So, did you eat any wedding cake?
